It's often portrayed as controlling the sun and moon, night and day, good and bad, up and down, and male and female. Owing to Lévi's drawing and these associations, the figure, in a similar manner to Beelzebub and Moloch, has (mistakenly) become virtually synonymous with Satan in popular consciousness.īaphomet represents all opposites and equalities in the universe, similarly to the Yin and Yang. The Freemasons were thereafter accused of worshipping it, after which it was incorporated into the theology of Thelema, and in turn into the iconography of LaVeyan Satanism. ![]() In the 19th century, French occultist Eliphas Lévi formulated the modern conception of the figure via an illustration portraying it with wings, a horned goat's head and an emblazoned pentagram and breasts. Medieval European folklore did not recognize that Islam was a monotheistic faith, and imagined instead that Muslims prayed and sacrificed to a number of terrifying and evil imaginary deities. ![]() Why? In this app, you probably don't want the user accidentally refreshing the page. Swiping down at the top of the page refreshes the entire page:Ĭhrome Android's native pull-to-refresh actionįor situations like the Twitter PWA, it might make sense to disable the native pull-to-refresh action. In fact, this particular UX has become so popular that mobile browsers like Chrome on Android have adopted the same effect. Pulling down on a social feed and releasing creates new space for more recent posts to be loaded. Pull-to-refresh is an intuitive gesture popularized by mobile apps such as Facebook and Twitter. Certain apps may want to provide a different user experience when the user hits a scroll boundary. Oftentimes the default is pretty nice, but sometimes it's not desirable or even unexpected. Turns out this behavior is called scroll chaining the browser's default behavior when scrolling content. The content behind the drawer starts scrolling! Scrolling is taken over by the parent container the main page itself in the example. But notice what happens if the user continues to scroll. In other words, the user reaches a "scroll boundary". When they reach the bottom, the overflow container stops scrolling because there's no more content to consume. As an example, take an app drawer with a large number of items that the user may have to scroll through. Scrolling is one of the most fundamental ways to interact with a page, but certain UX patterns can be tricky to deal with because of the browser's quirky default behaviors. # Background # Scroll boundaries and scroll chaining Scroll chaining on Chrome Android. It's in development or being considered by other browsers. For example in the demo below the horizontal overflow can be scrolled through whilst the text that extends beyond the height of the box is hidden. It’s also possible to manipulate the overflow of content horizontally or vertically with the overflow-x and overflow-y properties. ![]() The scrollbars will only show up if there is content that actually breaks out of the element. ![]() autoĪuto overflow is very similar to the scroll value, only it solves the problem of getting scrollbars when you don’t need them. Note: In OS X Lion, when scrollbars are set to only show when being used, scroll behaves more like auto, in that only needed scrollbars will show up. IOS’ momentum scrolling can be enabled for this value with -webkit-overflow-scrolling. Of note with this value is that you get BOTH horizontal and vertical scrollbars no matter what, even if the content requires only one or the other. ![]() Setting the overflow value of a box to scroll will hide the content from rendering outside the box, but will offer scrollbars to scroll the interior of the box to view the content. So for example a user has their default font size set larger than you would expect, you may be pushing text outside of a box and hiding it completely from their view. However, bear in mind that content that is hidden in this way is utterly inaccessible (short of viewing the source). This is particularly useful in use with dynamic content and the possibility of an overflow causing serious layout problems. This literally hides any content that extends beyond the box. The opposite of the default visible is hidden. Generally, you shouldn’t be setting static heights on boxes with web text in them anyway, so it shouldn’t come up. ![]() The important thing to remember here is that even though the content is visible outside of the box, that content does not affect the flow of the page. So in general, there is no reason to explicitly set this property to visible unless you are overriding it from being set elsewhere. If you don’t set the overflow property at all, the default is visible. Overflow comes into play more commonly when explicit widths and heights are set and it would be undesirable for any content to spill out, or when scrolling is explicitly being avoided. Unless a height is set, text will just push an element taller as well. Remember that text will naturally wrap at the end of an element (unless white-space is changed) so text will rarely be the cause of overflow. inherit: sets the overflow to the value of its parent element.initial: uses the default value which is visible.auto: if the content proceeds outside its box then that content will be hidden whilst a scroll bar should be visible for users to read the rest of the content. This can be used with overflow-clip-margin to set the clipped area. clip: content is clipped when it proceeds outside its box.scroll: similar to hidden except users will be able to scroll through the hidden content.hidden: overflowing content will be hidden. This is the default value of the property visible: content is not clipped when it proceeds outside its box. ![]() ![]() ![]() Use the tempo-synced delay and fade-in controls to add spaced-out delays and subtle, gradual floods of sound. Price plays a significant role, of course, but it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor. Now you know for sure that you need a power converter, the next step is figuring out the best RV converter for your particular needs. What You Should Look for in an RV Electrical Converter It also regulates the current so that it’s more consistent. You may want to have an electricity converter charger handy in case you’re in a scenario where mains power is going to work better than solar energy.Īlternatively, there are DC-to-DC solar power RV converters that will increase the amount of energy that your solar panels collect. Solar power systems are designed to charge your RV batteries, not necessarily run your appliances and electronic devices. It’s also dependent on factors such as weather or environment. Solar power isn’t anywhere near as powerful a power source as hooking up to a campground pedestal. You don’t necessarily have to have a converter because solar power is on DC power.īut before you ditch the travel trailer converter idea… If you have a modern power system in your RV that uses solar power, you’re in luck. Keep in mind that hooking up to the campground pedestal will provide more juice than generator power, so you may still want to hook up to shore power at some point. ![]() Some generators are inverter generators, but most likely you won’t find any with a built-in converter. Using a generator for your power source is in some ways similar to hooking up to a power pedestal at an RV park, as it provides AC power and so you’ll need a power converter to use it. It’s much smarter to use a power supply converter charger to hook up to the campground pedestal at an RV park. Systems like the heat or the AC will drain your battery power quickly. You’ll probably only be able to run the basics like lights and small electronic devices. Still, you would only be able to do this temporarily. ![]() With the above being said, you can run everything in your RV from the batteries without a converter charger if you have an inverter to transform DC current to AC current. Other Converter Scenarios Running Your RV Off of Shore Power ![]() In short, if you have an RV and plan to hook up to shore power for your power supply, then you need a power converter for your vehicle. The converter allows for AC power to charge your batteries and DC-powered devices, while simultaneously providing power to those AC-powered electronics in your camper. For example, city power is on an AC supply, but your recreational vehicle batteries are on DC power. Think of an RV converter as a way to transfer power from one medium to another. So what does this mean regarding an RV converter charger? The appliances and electronic devices in your RV that draw a lot of energy, such as the refrigerator, air conditioner, heater, run from the AC electrical system. The batteries, lights, fans, TVs, and other electronics requiring a small amount of power run from the DC power system. You need this conversion because most recreational vehicles have both AC and DC power systems. What is a Camper Power Converter, and Do I Need One?Īs briefly suggested in the introduction, an AC power converter will convert 120 volt AC down to 12 volt DC power. Before jumping into what you should be looking for, let’s answer an important question. With this being said, you don’t have to know everything about electricity to choose an excellent RV converter charger for your RV. The electrical system in recreational vehicles is complicated and can become a headache if you aren’t at least an amateur electrician. In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about choosing an excellent RV converter. In some instances, you’ll need to connect AC to DC power, and that’s where an RV power converter comes in. The Thames Discovery Programme, a group of historians and volunteers, run guided tours of the foreshore where “expert guide will point out fascinating archaeology hiding in plain sight like Saxon fish traps and jetties that once led to Tudor palaces… and that you stay safe and stick to Port of London Authority rules,” said Josh Frost, senior community archaeologist with Thames Discovery. It has never been easier for people to explore the Thames: anyone looking for inspiration just has to follow the mudlarking hashtags on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. In addition, the mud of the Thames is anaerobic – having very low levels of oxygen – so is perfect for preserving organic material that would otherwise rot.ĭespite its humble origins, mudlarking is undergoing a renaissance. Mudlarks were a chiefly London phenomenon because few port cities had as large, exposed riverbanks where they could descend to do their work. At this time, the banks of the river would have swarmed with the melancholy figures of mudlarks, mostly poor women and children who would be “up with the larks” to work whenever the river ran low.Īs the tide dropped, they would wade into the mud to grab lumps of coal, pieces of rope or anything else careless boatmen had dropped overboard that they could sell. The terms came about in the Georgian and Victorian periods when the Thames was one of the major routes to transport goods into the city. ![]() Historically, being a mudlark was not a desirable station in life. Walking along the foreshore of the Thames in central London is not everyone’s idea of a hobby – it can be cold, dirty and just as muddy as mudlarking suggests. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mods may remove posts at their discretion. Specifically, it offers a hosted service for both free and paid accounts running up to $36 per year. In contrast, NewsBlur is an all-in-one solution that addresses all those. The three apps so far mentioned focus on the server-side or the client-side experience and, more often than not, require users to host their own server or use a proprietary backend. NewsBlur It works with several RSS backends like Tiny Tiny RSS, FreshRSS, Nextcloud, and even proprietary services like Feedly and InoReader.
